Serological Studies on Azoproteins Antigens Containing Azocomponents with Aliphatic Side

چکیده
The first studies in this series included only simple aromatic amino compounds. An extension of the investigation to aliphatic substances, such as tartaric acid (1), pepfides (2) and carbohydrates (3, 4), was made possible by the expedient of combining them to aromatic amines to form diazotizable compounds which could be linked to protein. Since simple aliphatic compounds have not been examined systematically with regard to their serological properties, experiments with such substances have been undertaken. The results will be presented here. The combining of aliphatic acids with protein was effected either

Serological Reactions with Simple Chemical Compounds (precipitin Reactions)
Experiments are described demonstrating the precipitation of azodyes by immune sera prepared by the injection of azoproteins containing the same azo component. These precipitin reactions prove conclusively the view already advanced on the basis of inhibition reactions that antibodies combine specifically with substances of small molecular weight. Although in this respect both phenomena have the...
متن کاملSerological Studies on Azoproteins
A study was made of the specificity of artificial compound-antigens containing aliphatic chains. Striking specificity was exhibited in the reactions of compounds with short chains containing a carboxyl group; for instance succinic acid could be differentiated from malonic or glutaric acid which contain one fewer and one more carbon atom respectively. With the substances containing longer chains...
متن کاملSerological Reactions of Azoproteins Derived from Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Diaryl Compounds
Serological reactions of azoproteins from p-aminodiphenyl, beta-naphthylamine, beta-anthramine and some compounds containing two benzene rings (aminodiphenyl methane etc.) have been described, the last mentioned substances having been the subject of theoretical discussion on serological specificity.
متن کاملOn the Influence of Acid Groups on the Serological Specificity of Azoproteins
The method of partial synthesis of antigens as employed in the foregoing experiments obviously cannot be substituted for the chemical study of natural antigens. But some questions of a rather general nature not easily accessible to investigations of the latter sort, may be approached by the use of artificial protein compounds. Thus the results reported indicate a peculiarity of certain chemical...
متن کاملExperiments on Anaphylaxis to Azoproteins
Experiments with azoproteins containing stereo-chemical isomeric groups of d- and l-tartaric acid showed well marked specificity of the anaphylactic reaction to these antigens, in conformity with the results of precipitin tests. Shock in these animals could be prevented by injection of azodye containing the specific groups. This phenomenon is ascribed to a desensitization.
